The petrol gage speedometer and temperature gage on your car are not working how can you fix this? |
[Edit] |
Answer
When multiple gauges that rely on different types of signals are not functioning, the problem is most likely in the common current flow sent to the gauges for their operation. In other words, there is a power interruption somewhere. Check your fuse box for a blown fuse, and if that is not hte problem, check for loose or disconnected wires leading to and from the instrument panel.
Another method to fix these items is to isolate the problem. Test each sensor, and make sure they are sending the proper signal to the gauges. Then isolate the gauges and apply power to them individually. You can then determine if the problem is in the sensor, the gauge, or the power delivery. Correct the problem and the gauge is fixed.
Answer
Petrol gauges are potentiometors (pots or those knobby things on just about anything) and change the "potential" of current flowing to the sensor. the gas tank has a floaty, much like a toilet. the floaty turns the pot, changing the value of current.
Speedometers are generators, or electrical motors that are wired backwards.
The temp gauge is most likely a coil that wraps around a bar. with expansion and contraction, you get move ment.
its very possible that all these are just worn out, some later GMs and Fords were apt to have things break down at the same time. Years later of course.
