Hi folks, We have a ranch in North Central Texas and raise British White Cattle. There is a lot to do on the ranch and that doesn't mean we're always punching cows. Actually, you don't have to punch these cows, they just follow you around if you have a few cubes with ya.
We used to raise angus cows but these are much better. they are really tame and grow well on just grass. The quality of the meat is excellent. But, I don't slaughter mine. They're more of a breeding stock and pets. I have a friend down the road that gives me steaks.
I wasn't always a rancher though. I started my career as an electronics technician and worked for Eagle Signal in Austin, Texas. I then got married and sold real estate while going to college and built my own house. We then moved back to Colorado where my parents had their ranch and bought and managed apartments in Denver. I finally did get my degree at The University of Colorado in geography and geology. After growing tired of city life, we moved to Delta, Colorado and bought an orchard. We raised peaches, apples, pears and apricots.
By this time my parents sold their ranch in Colorado and moved back to North Texas. Dad fell ill and I came back to Texas and got bit by the cow bug. It's not really a bug, I think it was always in my blood to start out with. So I bought this beautiful place on the Brazos.
If you want to find out more, please visit http://www.britishwhitestexas.com and there's a lot of links and pictures for you to look at. I have just started a blog and have some recipes and other stuff to look at and I'll be adding more things all the time. Rome wasn't built overnight as they say. Thanks.
Jim
