I work as a proofreader and copywriter for a marketing and design company. In college I was co-editor of the school newspaper, doing mainly the editorial and proofing while my partner did the layout. And in high school, I read and proofed many, many manuscripts written by other aspiring writers. So perhaps it makes sense that I'm so obsessed with making sure that everything is grammatically correct and easy to read.
I've been writing my whole life. I always loved fantasy and science fiction, particularly Lewis and Tolkien, and when I was about thirteen, it occurred to me in a kind of epiphany that since I loved fantasy, and I loved to write, maybe I could try writing some fantasy. (Gasp! The REVELATION.) So I did. And I've been doing it ever since. I've had my bouts with fanfiction, as well, particularly Star Wars, set in the prequel era, with Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon. Mmm, me loves some Obi-Wan.
I have many pet mice, a pet cat, and seven younger siblings. Yes, the mice and the cat get along just fine. :) Even when a mouse does happen to escape, the cat just looks at it and never tries to hurt it. She's a crotchety old cat, anyway. But I love her.
I've been keeping mice as pets for about three years now. It started because my family had a pet snake, and at one time we bought too many mice and ended up keeping them until the snake was hungry again. I fell in love with the furry little critters, of course. I've had many, many litters, some planned and some a surprise, and even raised four babies myself when the mother ran away when they were a week old. These mice grew up to be my tamest and sweetest pets, and I do love them dearly. I'm trying to prevent any more surprise litters, though--I think twenty pet mice is enough, don't you? I'd love to have a pet rat someday, and right now I'm studying that. I've been studying mice for years, and I've a learned a lot from internet research and talking with other mouse lovers.
I also dearly love playing RPG and strategy games, particularly Dungeons & Dragons. Of course I was introduced to it in college, but being an "adult" doesn't stop me from loving it! I have two RPG groups that I meet with weekly, and soon we'll be starting another weekend group that will be more one-shot adventures, with a large group of potential players, to encourage newbies and casual players to join us. I particularly love the story aspects of it, the interaction of characters and personality quirks. After I got some experience under my belt as a player, I started DMing, as well, which has been quite an adventure. Several of my friends and I are working together to build a setting called Wrath & Gunfire, looking to publish sometime in 2009. I still have a lot to learn, but I think that I'll love this game for the rest of my life. Can't wait for 4th edition!
I also play the piano and guitar, and occasionally write goofy songs. Some of them are even about D&D. One of these days I'm going to buy a video recorder and put them up on YouTube, but until then, you'll just have to imagine the hilarious awfulness for yourself. Trust me, they're terrible and wonderful at the same time.
Oh, and I'm also a born-again Christian. Doesn't stop me from being a massively geeky nerd of a dork, though.
