Benedict Arnold was the worst traitor in American history but, John Andre who paid the price. One night in September 1780, Arnold met Andre in Haverstraw, New York. Arnold turned over confidential papers that would allow the British to take control of one of America's strongst forts, West Point.the next day, American soldiers stopped Andre and searched his clothing. When they found Arnold's papes in his boot, it was clear that Andre was a spy! Soon, word got back to Arnold that Andre had been captured. Arnold fled to England. But Andre was not so lucky: He was found guilty of spying and hanged.
