Answer
Quarterback: Leads the offense and is most generally the captain of the team.
Running Back: Carries the ball for short yardage or can be used to catch the ball and block for the quarterback.
Full Back: Primarily a blocker but is used to carry the ball in short yardage situations.
Offensive Tackle: Block for the quarterback.
Offensive Guard: Block for the quarterback.
Tight End: A player that catches the ball usually in short yardage.
Wide Receiver: Catches the ball where the quarterback throws it.
Defensive Tackle: Get to the quarterback or ball handeler, sometimes used to block offensive linemen for the linebackers.
Defensive End: Rush the quarterback or ball carrier
Outside Linebacker: Contain the rushing offense and extra protection for the pass.
Middle Linebacker: Usually the captain of the defense, run support and pass protection.
Corner Back: Guards the wide receiver making him miss the ball.
Strong Safety: A hard hitting Corner Back type player used mostly against the pass.
Free Safety: Used mostly as an extra Corner Back. Both the Strong and Free Safety are positioned in the middle of the field.
