What are the positive and negative effects of imperialism? |
[Edit] |
Answer
Imperialism can be a broad and vague term depending on how its used and can refer to any country that conquers another country and uses any of its resources. This could refer to something such as Alexander's conquests or even the U.S. acquisition of territories (though highly argumentative). Imperialism can cause drains on countries natural resources, inhibit freedom, and have drastic economic results such as poverty.

Answer
There is nothing positive about imperialism. It is the logical evolution of capitalism in it's quest for total control of the planet's resources—including all of the capital itself. Sort-of, "capital exerting cultural, economic, political and ultimately military control over all aspects of human life for the benefit of far less than 1% of the total world population. The U.S., Canada, Germany, Japan, England, Australia, France, etc. are all examples of imperialist countries. Mexico, Zimbabwe, Vietnam, Nicaragua, India are all examples of colonial or semi-colonial countries. Imperialism will destroy the planet if it is not replaced with democratic governments composed of working people and farmers.
