What are the pros and cons of a very low fat diet? |
[Edit] |
Answer
Originally, it was proposed that a low fat diet could help individuals lose weight. Since fat contains more calories per gram than carbohydrates and protein (9 calories/gram vs. 4 calories a gram), it was thought that it would be easier for individuals to cut fats from their diets since it would mean a small reduction of mass would result in a greater reduction of calories. Unfortunately, feeling full and satisfied is more complicated than just consuming a great enough mass of food. As a result, many individuals who excessively cut fats ended up more than compensating by consuming more calories from carbohydrates and protein.
Instead, choose a sensible diet low in saturated fat and high in monunsaturated fats and omega-3 fats.
