Columbia University is known for it's creative writing program.

San Francisco State University has one of the finest departments in the country. I received my MFA in 2004 in Fiction and feel it was the best experience of my life. San Francisco is a mecca for great talents who will come speak and educate, the instructors are stellar, and the city itself is a wonderful source of learning in its own right. You may also consider the University of Iowa program.
