What does the 'x' mean on the end of children's clothing sizes?

[Edit]

The x means extra. 6x is larger than 6, but not quite a 7. It is more like a 6-1/2 for 6-year-olds who are too large for a 6 but too small for a 7.

Plus sizes for kids:

X means plus (for girls) or husky (for boys). Meaning it is for children who are on the heavier side of the weight chart for children their age.
