What does the word golf mean?

[Edit]

Answer

Golf is believed to be derived from the Scottish word "goulf" which means "to strike." There's also a Dutch word "kolf" (sometimes spelled colf, colve) which translates to "bat or club," which the word "goulf" is believed to be derived from. Some claim is an acronym meaning "Gentlemen only, ladies forbidden" but this has been proven to be false.

Actually golf is abbreviated meaning, Girls Only Ladies Forbidden. While golf was circulating Scotland and other countries, guys were the only people who were aloud to play, and ladies were forbidden.
