What is a pennie?

[Edit]

There is no coin called a "pennie".

A penny is a British coin worth 1/100 of a pound sterling, about 1.85 U.S. cents as of 09/2008.

Because of historic ties to England, the lowest-denomination coins used in the U.S. and Canada are called pennies in common usage, but in reality they're cents. There is no official U.S. or Canadian coin called a penny.
