What is an example of a periodic sentence? |
[Edit] |
One of the most famous periodic sentences ever written in English is in Edward Gibbon's, Memoirs of My Life. (That is the same "Gibbon" who wrote The History of the Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire.)
When I was a lad, every schoolboy had the sentence by heart: Unprovided with original learning, uninformed in the habits of thinking, unskilled in the arts of composition, I resolved -- to write a book.
