I think the AK-47 is a little better because it has more stoping power (kinetic energy). The reason for that is beacuse it use a bigger bullet the 7.62mm. The flaw about the AK-47 is that the bullet decrease the effective range (less then 400yd) of the weapon, other then that flaw it is a great weapon.
The M4 on the other hand has less stoping power beacuse it uses the 5.56mm round. The round is smaller which means it flies faster and has a range of more then 600yd. The M4 has good range but not a good enough punch.
I also heard of a new weapon that has the range of the M4 and the punch of a AK-47 it looks just like the M4 but i just can't remember the name.
