What is life in Scotland like and how does it compare with life in Midwest America especially if one doesnt have a lot of money?

[Edit]

Answer

I lived in Scotland, up North near Skye. It's cold in the Winter but not as cold as say Minnesota. I remember waiting impatiently for Spring and it's a short flower growing season. Minimum wage is higher than in the US, so things seem more expensive. I found it easier to shop cheaply because of being able to only buy what you need. If you use the local butcher, baker and greengrocer, instead of bulk packging at supermarkets. High petrol prices, but good public transport in cities and cross-country travel. You may order a daily paper, have milk delivered along with juice, yogurt, potatoes and bread from the same milkman. There are 2 mail deliveries M-F, with one on Sat. Schools have longer hours and different holidays, no long Summer one. A different grading system and all the students wear uniforms. Social life is a lot more relaxed and informal, especiallt if you go out to the local pub, even just for pool or darts. There are many clubs for various hobbies and lots of self-help organizations. Lots to do in terms of sightseeing and travel for short break getaways. TV shows are good and with satellite you get many choice pf shows, including US ones. No big malls readily available and soccer (football) is everywhere - no American style football except occasionally on late nite tv. Home internet not as common as here, but everyone seems to have a mobile (cell)phone glued to their ear! Sorry if this is muddled - hope it helped!
