What is the NIV Bible?

[Edit]

NIV stands for New International Version, and the NIV is a very high quality translation of the Hebrew and Greek Scriptures into English. Work began in 1965. The New Testament was published in 1973, and the entire Bible was completed in 1978. The work was done by over 100 scholars, working directly from the best available Hebrew, Aramaic and Greek texts.

Taken from Preface material, The Committee on Bible Translation, June 1978.
