Between October and March. Summer is too hot. I know many people who like to take their Hawaii vacations during Christmas.

Actually, I work on a cruise ship that sails Hawaii exclusively! The absolute best months to visit are December through April. The reason is because the Humpback whales are enjoying the warm Hawaiian waters and to give birth to their newborns. The spinner dolphins are very active in the port of Kona (on the "big island") and it's extremely cold just about everywhere on the mainland, so it's a great escape. However, it IS winter in Hawaii, too. Don't be too upset if you encounter a sunny tropical shower or two.

Sail with NCL America (ncl.com). They are not required to leave the Hawaiian waters to go to an International port, so passengers enjoy at least 96 hours in port including two overnights - one in Maui and one in Kauai.
