What is the best way to get from London to Paris?

[Edit]
You basically have four choices, when it comes to traveling between London and Paris:

1.) Take a ferry across the channel and then a train to Paris

2.) Take the Eurostar from London directly to Paris

3.) Fly "See related questions link to the left"

4.) Drive and cross the channel via tunnel "See link below"

There are pros and cons to each of the four choices. The ferry and train to Paris is relatively inexpensive (expect to pay between $25 and $35 American), but it's, by far, the most time consuming option. In fact, I would only recommend this one if you have a lot of time on your vacation and/or consider countryside viewing to be one of the most fulfilling aspects of any trip.

The Eurostar is the famous high speed luxury train that will get you from the center of London (sort of) to the center of Paris (sort of) in about three hours. Unfortunately, high speed also means high cost when it comes to purchasing a Eurostar ticket. Even the cheap seats will cost you between $100-$150 [American] for a roundtrip ticket and a roundtrip seat in First Class will make your pocketbook about $250-$300 [American] lighter.

Eurostar is a luxury train. If you are into quality service and being pampered, and money is not really an object, then the Eurostar is probably the best option for you. But be forewarned that if you're thinking of taking the Eurostar in order to be able to get in a little countryside sightseeing, I recommend you reconsider. About twenty-five minutes of your journey is spent underground as you cross the chunnel, and the remaning time the train moves so fast that your view of the passing country is nothing but fast moving blur.

The third option is to fly. This is the option I use most and the one I would actually recommend to those who are both efficient and budget conscious. There are two key airlines in England that make traveling within Europe not only an affordable dream come true, but almost irresistable.

A roundtrip ticket to Paris on a carrier like Easyjet will usually set you back between $14-$25 [American], depending on which London airport you choose to fly out of. The cheaper tickets can be obtained by those willing to fly from London Luton or London Stansted, both of which can be reached via train from central London for a fare of about $8.

RyanAir also offers very inexpensive roundtrip fares to Paris from London for sometimes as low as one British Penny plus fees, which still usually only come out to about $14 [American]. The one drawback to both airlines is that they are first come first served seating. There are no assigned seats. Passengers are given a priority number or letter as they check-in. These numbers/letters are used to determine boarding order. What this means is that passengers will either have to spend a considerable amount of time waiting around the airport in an attempt to secure a good place in the boarding order or they will need to be comfortable with whatever seat happens to be available when they board the plane. Since the flight to Paris from London is only about an hour, the benefits, in this case, certainly outweigh the cons because for a lot less money and about the same investment of time as would be required in taking the Eurostar, one can travel between London and Paris rather easily and affordably.
