What is the difference between 'press a button' and 'push a button'?

Pressing implies a downward motion, whereas pushing is an outward motion. Take your computer for example, you 'press' a key on your keyboard and you 'push' a button to turn it on.

It could be the pressure which is applied to each to perform the required action.
