What is the difference between Christianity and Protestantism?

[Edit]

Christianity is the religion that Protestantism is a part of. Many people also consider Roman Catholicism and Eastern Orthodox churches to be part of Christianity. So you could say that Protestantism is like a "section" of Christianity, one expression of belief in Christianity, which differs in some beliefs from some other Christians.

Christianity is the general term that applies to all who are Christians. People were first called Christians in Antioch, Syria, during the ministry of Paul the Apostle. Protestantism is a branch of Christianity, a denomination, a group of people who believe a certain way and identify themselves as one unit called Protestantism. Just as a tree has many branches, each branch of Christianity has a different name for those who believe that certain doctrine that is taught therein.
