When you talk about fat, hogs can get 1.5 to 2.0 inches of backfat with .50 to.80 being an average of the pigs that you eat. The Chinese breed is the fattest breed. The trick to get the pigs fat enough to have a good tasting meat but lean enough that the fat isn't wasted. Now some day we may change hogs were the produce more fat or Lard or backstrap so that it can be used to make fuel to power our cars and trucks. Lard producing hogs were very important in our early history in the USA. A very renewable source of fuel that could be done very easily and not have a great impact upon the environment and actually be more effecient than corn on the environment. It would take some change in facilites that slaughter swine and rendering plants to produce the fuel but would be an easier conversion than hydrogen and changing all the filling stations out to hydrogen. Just a thought for you young people to consider and a very good subject for a paper or theises.
