Some people speculate that breakdancing originated from rival gangs in the ghetto. They would settle arguments and disagreements by having 'breakdancing' contests. The person who could 'out-do' the other by doing more complicated and creative moves.
Some other people think that it originated from gang fights. Ex-gang members would join music groups and 'breakdance'. Most parents would approve because it was a 'positive alternitive to gang activity.'
