Answer
Oh, get off your high horse. Some people worshiped stones. Does that mean I?m a pagan because I have a rock garden? The Egyptians had cat and dog gods. So I can?t have a pet if I?m a Christian? The stars represented the ancient Greek and Roman gods, but God sent a star to guide the wise men to the Christ Child. Christians have as much right to use all these ?symbols? as the ?pagans? do. We?re not praying to the stupid tree, just using it as a decoration.
Actually the stars did not represent Greek and Roman gods; planets did, as did wind and sky and other such phenomena, but not stars as is suggested above. And the Christmas tree did indeed originate in pagan times; Pagans had a holiday on which our Christmas is based. They celebrated the winter solsitce and had a 'Holly King' who did battle with the 'Oak King' twice a year, at the aforementioned winter solstice and also at the summer solstice.
