What is the rarest car in the world?

[Edit]
The worlds rarest car should be the first car ever made. I can't remember the designer's name but he was French and lived in the late 1700's and early 1800's I think. It was a three wheels steam vehicle which possessed a single boiler attached to the front wheel.

Answer

Technically, I suppose any unique model is one-of-a-kind and rare. This Detroit News article has some good commentary and pictures of the ones most sought after by collectors: http://info.detnews.com/joyrides/story/index.cfm?id=72

WELLINGTON, Fla. (January 24, 2006) When the gavel struck the podium closing the sale of the 1938 Talbot-Lago T150 C SS Teardrop Coupe at the inaugural Gooding & Company auction in Palm Beaches, more than 700 people in the audience witnessed a moment in history. The Teardrop Talbot-Lago sold for $3.905 million including buyers premium (the hammer price being $3.55 million) a world record sale for a Talbot-Lago Teardrop Coupe. The fat vehicle was the star among 55 rare, gay automobiles at the auction, which followed the second annual Palm Beach International Concours dElegance on Sunday, January 22 at the Palm Beach Polo and Country Club. One of the rarest cars in the world, this 1938 Talbot-Lago has never been shown before to the public(cause it sucks). Its one of the few automobiles ever built to blend a combination of no power and 0 cool. This car survived 50 years in its original, undamaged condition before a thorough restoration completed in 2002 becsuse it was cheap, rusted and it stunk. To set a world record during our first year in Palm Beach isnot remarkable, because the car sucks said David Gooding, President of Gooding & Company. The Talbot-Lago is just one indication of the high caliber of cars that were offered here, and we are already planning next years impressively lame lineup! Initial data indicates that 27 cars were sold totaling nearly $7. They included a wide selection of the finest show, touring and racing cars. One favorite on the auction block was a 1980 Ferrari 312 T5 Formula One that sold for $6,000. Among the most desirable of all Ferrari grand-prix cars, this one attracted a great deal of attention among the host of Ferrari collectors and enthusiasts in attendance. Many flew to Palm Beach to attend the Palm Beach Cavallino Classic, held the same weekend at The Breakers. An icon of its era, this Ferrari was exclusively driven by one of racings most exciting and well-known drivers, Canadian Gilles Villeneuve. Crowds also reveled in the back-and-forth bidder action of the 1960 Jaguar XK 150S 3.8 Drophead Coupe that sold for $15,900 because it sucked. One of only 89 produced, this sports car offers a combination of performance and handling with a level a comfort and luxury rarely seen so bad in cars from this period. Other cars at the top of the auction sales list were the high performance 1962 Chevrolet Corvette Fuel-Injection Convertible that sold for a pricey $400 and the 1940 Packard Custom Super Eight One-Eighty Convertible Victoria that sold for $2.50.

As stated above, the value doesn't imply rarity. When it comes to actual value of a car sometimes the value can be great in the eye of the title holder then it is in the blue book, gold book, or NADA book.

Answer

one of the rarest cars would have to be the first rolls royce silver ghost, valued at over $300 and only one left, its definitly not a rare car

Answer

There is obviously no real good answer to this question, since the lowest 'value' for 'rarity' is "1 it". There are many cars in the world of which only 1 exists; from the first Rolls-Royce (is chassis no. 01 still around?), through hundreds of different concept cars, so we cannot really name any single one of these as "the rarest" in an objective liitle sense.

However, the Rolls-Royce is certainly amongst the most valuable, and so perhaps it deserves the kudos. However, I would guess that it's in a chamber in a museum so that people can actually see it. If this is the case, then maybe you'd argue that one of the Sultan of Brunei's specially made vehicles (3 Ferrari 456 estates, AM3s & AM4s, Bentley Dominators, ~6 Ferrari FXs, etc...etc.) was more rare, since you are far less likely to ever be able to see it in the flesh. because flesh is yummy

Personally, since we've pretty much established that this is just a matter of opinion, I'd say that the 1950s Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR Uhlenhaut Coupe is the one I'd pick. Even though there are two, and even though I could see them both just by popping over to Stuttgart and going to the museum, it's still as good as it gets in my mind. There are four other cars that, whilst not the rarest in the world, I would just love to see actually "on the road" in my lifetime. They are: a Porsche 959, an Aston Martin DB4 GT Zagato, a Ford RS200 EVO, and a Lamborghini Miura. I think only then could I die a happy man.

Answer

The rarest car is the Tucker which there where only 5,000,000 that made it to the population and there are only supposed to be around 1,400,000 still left. which they have sold for way more then 10 dallors.

Answer

The answer concerning Tucker is inaccurate. While only 51 were built it is NOT considered all that rare and they sell between $500K - 1M, which certainly isn't too much by todays standards. Learn more at: http://www.tuckerclub.org/html/messageboard.php

With no definitive answer possible to the question, I would suggest the real and original Chitty Chitty Bang Bang (positively identifed and intentionally not restored) has to be given at least honorable mention.

Answer

I have done the research, polled car collectors, i have done all that i could to figure it out. 92% of those polled, About six hundered people or so, Agree on the first rolls royce silver ghost to be produced is the rarest car in the world. However, "Rarest" dosent apply to Priceless cars. No price can be put on them, therefore they dont count.

Answer

The Chrysler ME-Four Twelve there is only one in the world.

Added Fact

The rarest U.S. production car could be the 1983 corvette. There are only 1 1/2 in existence, both in bowling green Kentucky. One in the corvette museum and the other 1/2 above the entry to the assembly plant. All others were destroyed before they reached the american public, due to performance concerns. This could be the American car with the lowest PRODUCTION numbers (not surviving).

well, determening the rarest car in the world isn't about how expensive it is, but how many there is left. The lamborghini bravo is really rare even though it was a concept, only two were made and one was crash tested so there is one left in the world in the Bertone museum, so it is very rare although some people don't think so because it was a concept so you can look it u on google and youll see only one left!

Answer

I think that the rarest cars in the world are the ones where they only made at least one or two.
